What is ChatGPT?
In case you aren’t aware, ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that can interact in a conversational way answering questions, providing prompts, analyzing information, and more. When it came on the scene in late 2022, everyone has been talking about it. But AI isn’t new. It’s been around for years and people in the online space have been using it a lot. But when ChatGPT came on the scene, it was so exciting because it’s free, and it does quite a bit even for being free.
As ChatGPT has continued to be used, its potential was quickly realized. From writing entire blog posts to creating entire business models, the possibilities seem endless and too good to be true. And as with anything else, it has already been used for both good and bad.
So how does this affect us as online business owners?
Should you use ChatGPT or not? And if so, how?
How to approach ChatGPT as a Christian Entrepreneur
That’s what I want to discuss today. These are just my opinions and thoughts. You don’t have to agree with them, but I wanted to give my thoughts because I’ve had clients ask me if it was ok to use. If one person is asking, then I can only assume many more are wondering the same thing.
To get started, let’s talk about how to approach using ChatGPT as a Christian.
The reason it may feel weird to think about using ChatGPT is it feels kind of like cheating. You can literally type in anything and it will spit back out an answer for you. You want to start a business and don’t know what products to offer? You can ask chatGPT and it will tell you what you could do. And while this sounds awesome, and we’ll talk about some of the benefits of chatgpt here in a bit, there are some precautions I think we should take as Christians and business owners.
ChatGPT doesn’t replace the promptings of the Holy Spirit
If you find yourself tempted to ask ChatGPT what you should do in your business or what the best product idea would be, then you aren’t leaving room for the Holy Spirit to direct your business. It is so easy to ask ChatGPT instead of praying becuase it gives you a concrete answer. You aren’t doubting if you heard it right or not because you can read it. But this process of learning to ask God for direction and then listening for His response and being obedient is crucial to your success as a Kingdom-focused entrepreneur. I’m not saying ChatGPT can’t be useful. We’ll get to that in a bit, but this is the biggest danger to watch out for. Always comes back to that heart posture.
ChatGPT is not a replacement for your knowledge
It doesn’t replace what you already know about your people and how you can best serve them. Sometimes you can put stuff into ChatGPT, and it will give you back information that you read and you’re like “Meh. I don’t know if that’s really true though.”
Then listen to yourself. You are the expert in your business. You know your actual clients and ideal clients better than ChatGPT.
So always filter it through your own brain.
You can’t be replaced by ChatGPT.
Don’t take yourself out of your own business.
God called YOU to the business for a reason. Your personality needs to be infused into it. So while ChatGPT may give you some ideas for products or copy, at the end of the day, you need to use it only as a starting point and then modify it to include your own personality.
At the end of the day, ChatGPT is a tool. Just as with any other tool, it can be used for good or bad. So if you keep in mind that it is a tool and not the director, then you can use ChatGPT to help you launch and grow your business. The considerations I just shared with you are how to keep your focus on that fact that it’s a tool. Now let’s talk about how you can use it to help.
Ways ChatGPT Can Be Used to Launch and Grow Your Business
Use it as an editor.
If you’re not great at writing, then ChatGPT can help clean up your copy. There are actually prompts out there online that teach you how to teach ChatGPT what your marketing voice is like (you know the one that’s really polished), and then you can use it to help you clean things up. I still think there’s no replacing a great copywriter, because again, they are a person and have the promptings of the Holy Spirit as well and there are nuances, but if you can’t afford a copy writer, then ChatGPT is a great way to get help with writing before that.
Brainstorming and ideas.
You can ask ChatGPT to give you lead magnet ideas, digital product ideas, etc. This is a great way to learn what’s possible without having to scour the whole internet. But again, ChatGPT isn’t deciding. It’s like an assistant laying out all of the options in front of you. You still have to decide and that means listening for where God is leading you in every choice.
Prompts to get the writing process started.
Sometimes, it’s easier to edit than to stare at a blank screen. You can ask ChatGPT to give you social media post prompts, email prompts, etc. and then you can tweak it and make it your own from there. That’s one thing I would say. Whatever you do, don’t just use it straight up from ChatGPT. You have to infuse yourself into your work.
Final Thoughts
There’s some food for thought. I’d love to hear what you think. Come on over to the Faith-driven Business Mamas FB group and share your thoughts. As with anything you hear from me or otherwise, you have to pray and listen to what God is telling you about it. If you’re not feeling ok with using ChatGPT, then don’t. It’s soo soo important that you are obedient to where the Holy Spirit is leading you over what anyone else says. So I just wanted to say that.
Keep pursuing your calling.
