Sharing is caring!

So you’ve decided that you’re ready to start looking into how you can make this calling on your heart a reality. You want to start a business and work on your own terms but you find yourself saying  “I want to start a business but what would I even do?”

Knowing that you want to start a business is a great first step toward actually making it a reality. Deciding which business to start can feel overwhelming at first because there are so many different options. Thanks to the internet, you can literally start a business online about anything.

For example, there are people that make lots of money online by running a blog focused on crafts, selling used items on ebay, or even growing a Youtube channel about fishing (trust me… my husband loves these and they have millions of subs.)

The truth is that God has given you a specific set of skills, talents, interests, etc. that have prepared you for a specific business. Your job is to do some soul searching and really figure out what that is.

How do you choose which business is right for you?

While there are lots of ways to make money online, you don’t want to just do any business. You want a business that uses your natural gifts, gives you a sense of purpose and happens to make you money. Otherwise, you’re just creating a job for yourself. And the whole reason you’re leaving your job is because it feels like, well, a job.

In reality, you can literally make money doing almost anything online.

So to help you focus your energy as you’re deciding which business to pursue, I have a simple strategy to share:

You don’t have all day. But these 3 are really good at helping you really reframe what your business could (and probably should) be.

Figuring out which business you should start is already overwhelming so it doesn’t help to read 20 books on the subject.

These 3 can give you really great insight that will help you get in touch with your own gifts and show you what’s possible. Reading them in order would really provide a lot of clarity.

48 days to the work you love  by Dan Miller – For translating your skills into a business

Now that you have an inkling of your natural God-given gifts, take a look at how you enjoy applying those gifts. This book by Dan Miller is great at helping you evaluate what work you really love and what you don’t.

The $100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau – For Business Ideas

Not everyone is called to be an entrepreneur. But you are. You can feel that urge to create your own business and be your own boss so you can really be in charge of the impact you can make. There are lots of business ideas, but you’re not wanting to just make money. You want to create a business that uses both your gifts and skills.

This book is great because it really shows you that people can turn almost anything into a viable business.

If you’re looking for ideas, then definitely give this one a read.
